I just received the e-mail. This is what I'll say.
Zen-17 has been around the community around two years, but an alternate identity has been around for seven years, and the person behind both understands things on both sides of the community at a level that's unmatched save by those who don't deserve that understanding....
I say this without hesitation because it is true and now is the time to say it. What's tragic is that no one will ever care about this understanding or appreciate that as much as it deserves to be, and it wouldn't make a damn bit of difference. I suppose I could tell myself that it's just an online community, but in the end that community is composed of very real people, and very real ideas. So this is all I can do.
You are all great people. Especially Professor Askew, I'm amazed he's been able to stick around all this time. Which is why I want to let you all know that I have to move on, due to personal issues. Enjoy Myst 5.
As far as direction, from what I understand, when this next game is completed, the Great Tree may no longer have a purpose.
Past, present and future.
Shorah. |

Zen, thanks for your comments. Your contribution to the community is appreciated, I'm sure.
As for The Great Tree having no purpose after Myst V, that is precisely the problem we are trying to address in this thread.
In the coming months, I'm sure Cyan will begin to release more about their future project(s), at which point we'll have to decide if we want to refocus in that direction, or go a completely different way. I'm just trying to get a jump on that decision so we can at least know what to expect.
It would be very sad to me to see this community dissolve. I'd like to find something that will bring us together again. _________________ #Brian Fioca

I have no doubt that we will. Exciting times are ahead....even if I have to make them myself. lol.
Zen, as far as moving on? You do what you must. I understand that perfectly. I wish you well. I, too, have moved on. And yet I am still here. That is the impact the Great Tree has had on me. The possibilities are INFINITE and I aim to prove it.
Zen, stop in and say hi every now and again. You'll see. _________________ Professor Daniel Askew - Securing our reality from the machinations of the Station Masters. |

I've been peeking my head into this forum every now and again... and I haven't seen things this lively in a while.
Like the rest of you, I look forward to the future of Cyan and whatever they send down the pike. Sure, the saga of MYST may be ending, but a new story is opening... and I for one can't wait to see what it's all about.
Come what may... count me in.
oh, and by the by... "Hi Everyone!!" <waves frantically>

All I know is that, regardless of any variable, I will most definitely continue to purchase Cyan games til the end. Interpret that as you will. |

I think what you mean by that is that you will continue to trade money for those products made by Cyan until you, they, or both are dead.

This turned out to be an ouchy post, in light of recent events. :/ _________________ ~Moiety Jean

Ouch is right. I tend to be an optimist, though. We'll just have to wait and see. _________________ Professor Daniel Askew - Securing our reality from the machinations of the Station Masters. |

I am absolutely gobsmacked, right now...
I think that's how they'd say it in England, anyway.
I was going to put something up about the Great Tree and future Cyan projects, but right now that's a bit painful to even think about. |

Well, turns out Cyan is only mostly dead, and still looking for a miracle. It knocked me for six, and I'm still on the fragile side, but there's still an ember of hope. The future is still full of possibilities... _________________
