OK. We know it's of a personal nature. So it's not related to the Cautious Optimism meter. And besides, that wasn't updated today. Yet.
It's shrinking awfully fast to be your weight, Professor... _________________ Durin Mephit * Member of Guild of Messengers - Unless otherwise stated, opinions are mine only and not Guild endorsed.

Gold star to Marten! LOL And to Jon, too, he never had a chance with the info I provided originally.
Now you know why I'm a story guy and not a puzzle guy.
Okay, so the cat's out of the bag. I'm on a diet! Ordinarily this isn't something you share with the public but I don't give a rat's handbag. I thought it would help motivate me to poast this here on a daily basis. You know....incentive? Or is it public humiliation? I don't give a rat's...oh, I said that already.
Starting tomorrow I will be counting down to a fifteen pound weight loss for my doctor's visit in September. Keep your fingers crossed, everyone. My doctor wants me to lose a total of 50 pounds. Well, I don't know about that! I'd look like Skeletor if I really got down to 180.
So, let's just focus on the first fifteen pounds shall we? Goooooo Team! _________________ Professor Daniel Askew - Securing our reality from the machinations of the Station Masters. |

I didn't mean anything by that, Skeletor Jr. Honest.
If I remember correctly, Cyc, I wasn't much heavier than you at your age. That was before I realized that dining out was an art form and that I was a master! _________________ Professor Daniel Askew - Securing our reality from the machinations of the Station Masters. |

I wish you the best of luck with your self-inflicted torment, er, I mean diet, Professor!
By the way everyone - I didn't win that gold star fairly. He mentioned going on a diet while we were rooming at Mysterium. _________________ Durin Mephit * Member of Guild of Messengers - Unless otherwise stated, opinions are mine only and not Guild endorsed.

Wow. I was so far into a weird math riddle there was no coming out of it.
I should probably go on a diet. But eating yummy things makes me so happy and not eating yummy things makes me so sad! _________________ ~Moiety Jean

Grats, prof! Three pounds in a day is pretty remarkable. Go celebrate with a nice bowl of bran flakes. _________________ The laws contrived by the Proud are their security, and their undoing. Such laws make disobedience a virtue and obedience a sin. |

Let the countdown begin! I need to lose 15 pounds so I'm counting down to zero.
8/7 = 15
8/8 = 12
8/9 = 11.5
8/10 = 10.5
I can't explain the three pound drop. I didn't really do anything to cause it so I'm not going to overanalyze it. Don't worry about me doing anything weird, Saxy, I'm not. LOL. In fact, there's a lot of food on this diet. You eat 5 times a day! _________________ Professor Daniel Askew - Securing our reality from the machinations of the Station Masters. |

A lot of times, just not being unhealthy can do magical things. I once accidentally dropped ten pounds in a week with no excercise or extraordinary dieting, just because it was the week after christmas, when I no longer had constant access to candy. _________________ The laws contrived by the Proud are their security, and their undoing. Good luck with the weight droppage, Professor!
Typically, the first 5 pounds or so are the easiest... just eating less food, particualrly food with sodium content will shed "water weight" off rather quickly. Once the water weight is gone, the rest you'll have to work for.
Don't get discouraged if the rate of dropping slows after the first 5 pounds or so... that's what happened to me... twice. keep the faith, and you'll get to where you want to be.
Are you on any particular diet plan? Atkins? South Beach? Grapefruit? Trim-Spa? Or just on the generic "eat less, exercise more" plan? _________________ KI 182798

Thanks, CJ!
I'm using South Beach, actually, as recommended by my doctor. He thinks it's a well-balanced regimen. It's quite a bit of food, I'll tell you. And of course at age 44 you just can't do it without regular exercise. That's where the new bicycle comes in. (My advice to kids? Never stop riding your bikes. It's much harder after a 30 year layoff.)
My wife has applied for a job at nearby Trinity College. If she gets it...

Ooh, the South Beach Diet! I know a handful of people who went on that diet and were really successful. I'm tempted to go on it myself, but I'm scared away by the relatively expensive prices on the South Beach Diet brand frozen meals at the grocery store. _________________
