As this project is resuming after a significant interruption, here is a script editing re-primer.

Script editing:

The goal of script editing is to identify and retain the portions of the discussion that best capture the story of the moment, and remove the parts that seem redundant or which contribute in a less significant way.

In general, portions of the script should not be re-arranged, though there may be limited exceptions; Erik's suggestion above on how to re-order a few messages between Tink and Phil is a good example of where re-ordering is needed for clarity, but I would like to discuss anywhere a change like this is proposed.

Editing should not create a biased view of what happened; we're not trying to change history, we're trying to accurately document it. For the English script, we can't change or rephrase what people said. For translations, expressions that do not translate well may be either explained, or a more familiar phrase with the same meaning may be chosen. A good example of this problem is the phrase "Loose lips sink ships," which appeared in an earlier episode.

Project status is now up to date. File URL for Episode 11 is updated to version 2.

Next steps (in no particular order)

* I need to type scripts into Adobe Premiere Pro for the English, French, and German languages. Dutch and Italian can be added later when they are ready/sent to me.

* I need someone to look at the scripts for Episodes 9, 10, and 11 and to propose how to shorten them.

* As scripts are completed, I will also enter those into Premiere and translators may begin translating.

* When have entered all of the script text that is finished and ready, I will begin announcing filming dates.

I have added a "Duration" field to each of the episode index pages at http://rel.to/prologue .

If translators could recommend corrections for any mistakes that I've made, I'd appreciate it. The only new word is "Duration".

Project update - Erik will handling the script editing position as well as the Dutch (Netherlands) translation for Episode 9 (and maybe the other episodes too). As soon as Erik and I are in complete agreement for the content of Episode 9, I'll post the final copy of that, and the team can begin work on it.

This weekend I remembered how to enter the translations with the least amount of work. No, seriously - I had forgotten how to do it. Blade had given me a technique for it two years ago and I couldn't remember.

Just wanted to look at anybody else's translation just for fun lol and
found out that two of my own ones are getting a 403 Forbidden page:

You don't have permission to access /Uru/scripts/Episode9v3_german2.doc
on this server - and this goes for Episode10v4final_german.doc and Erik's
and your script Episode11v3.doc as well... though it's the same directory...

All the others work correctly, are accessible ... Is this just me?... Very Happy
