When we were kids, my younger sister begged and begged for a kitten, and eventually my parents decided to give in and get her one. Friends of the family had a cat who "got around" and had some extra kittens to dispose of, so we took one. My sister, being probly 10 at the time, decided to name it "Snuggles" cuz, well, she wanted a snuggly cat.
And that cat never snuggled a day in her life the entire 10 years we had her. She would bite, and scratch, and growl and hiss, but never once did we get a snuggle out of her. We tried of course, but she wouldn't go for it.
Turns out, the 3-year-old who lived at the house we got the cat from used to pick it up and carry it around by the head when it was first born until we got it. She thought the kitten was one of her dolls and treated it that way. The poor dear thing never recovered... 
The cat, not the kid. With all due respect to those involved, that kid was screwed up... he he
