Actually, yer "rough tanslation" is pretty spot-on! Except the part about Thoreau, that's probably better translated "Italian Renaissance" (or perhaps more related to the French, it's a bit tricky in that regard).

Marten, I wouldn't suggest using Babelfish to translate it, if you try you will get something completley different then what Annacat just provided. It's clearly out of it's mind.
