Thanks for putting this in its own thread, Eleri. And thank you, Cycreim, for bringing it to light in the Right Now thread. It's a very good read. Here's the quote of particular interest to TGT:
Quote:
And this [player] got so involved in this that at this point, he has a permanent spot in the game. His name is Brian, and in one of the journals that the actors wrote, Brian's name is there as helping, as that part of the history that will live forever. So there's an ability to become part of the story and actually shape it.

I'm really glad Cyan is being so forthright about Uru info this time around. The old ways of mystery and hints no longer apply, unfortunately, and the word has to go out that Uru is chock full of awesome goodness.

World of Warcrafters might attempt to point out ways to "immortalize" yourself in that game, but honestly, I don't remember who was first to open the Ann-Garage Gate (or however that was spelled) or upon which of the myriad of servers that event first occurred. And as far as I know, it isn't recorded within the game. There isn't a hall of plaques you can go to, to see who got the credit for opening the gates on each server. WoW has been very slow to make any history really occur. It's happening... but at a snail's pace, and all of the history is being written by Blizzard. Their "world events" are inevitable.

Furthermore, participation in big events in WoW requires such a tremendous sink of one's time that it leaves little room for anything else resembling a life. I'll omit the negative rant about why.

Coverage like the article mentioned above is excellent, positive press about what makes Uru different. You don't have to be there every day, all day. But you can make a difference, be a voice for change, and influence the direction of the game. That is so... powerful.

What a great article. Cool

Seriously, though... if they were trying to motivate me by doing that, it worked. Played right into my own particular hierarchy of needs, for sure.

Now you do. If there's an angry person with a pitchfork and torch (me), there's got to be a castle nearby. It's probably yours.
