I can't watch it at work. What am I missing? Who should be offended by the movie in question? _________________ Professor Daniel Askew - Securing our reality from the machinations of the Station Masters. |

Well, they spend a good chunk of the humor in the episode poking fun at TGT. You'll hafta see it for yourself, I don't even wanna try and explain it... Suffice to say that for someone who's publically sed "let's put bad blood behind us", he's not really doing much to encourage that. (ie the words "morons", "pagans", and other such adjectives were applied to us liberally) _________________

While I haven't watched the movie, I think it's fair to say that if we let ourselves be upset by humor directed at us, we're taking ourselves too seriously.
Besides... it's free publicity.

I don't really see any reason to take offense. I'm not entirely sure we were being made the but of the joke. The piece is more mocking of the DRC than us directly. The two characters are expressing an exagerated DRC position in an atempt to achieve comedic effect, not all out saying "Aren't the GT a bunch of dweebs, and hey whats the deal with airplane food anyhow?". Its only mildly amusing and serves as some publicity for TGT. Script and humour aside they are quite well produced, or so I thought. |

I thought it was pretty funny. I mean, you can't believe anything that comes out of their mouths (unless whispered) so in saying that, the opposite must be true of TGT. I mean, they had the DRC rig the Kadish vault with a nuke, so really, their beliefs about TGT can be expected to be just as outlandish.
heehee - I'm still amused about the "they want us to stop killing their students before they can finish paying off their student loans" thing.

I thought it was funny, myself
Definitely a rib at the Tree in there, but not badly done at all, especially with the over-the-top DRC schtick they are doing. And the rest of it is pretty funny "NDA! NDA!" |

I see Marten too has good taste in theater.
I see no reason to be offended by this. I was mildly amused (although not their best effort, in my opinion.) I found the "pagans" thing quite funny, actually.
I don't think anyone is going to think The Great Tree had any involvement in this or was really approached for participation. It's all just a joke.
I know part of the issue here is who is saying stuff... but let's just try to take it as we would if any other explorer said the same things in the same way. I think we should just have a laugh at ourselves as well as the DRC, and then move on.

I try to take these kinds of things with a grain of salt... but for this, I need a whole darn saltlick...
It seems from the rest of the forum discussion that the reason for making this little vignette was solely to garner whatever feedback it got.
I liked it... I laughed... but because he's LOOKING for some form of feedback is exaclty why I shall offer none.
... at least not in that thread... cuz I guess I am leaving feedback here... kinda... sorta....
Anyhoo... there are better reasons to do things than just for someone else to say how great you are for doing it. >shrug< _________________ KI 182798
