I just finished reading The Book Of Atrus yesterday, (I know, I know, I'm a little late) and early this morning while driving the big truck a rather disturbing idea popped in....as if I wasn't already disturbed enough.

When I took Yeesha's journey of journeys, Teledahn seemed to 'work' okay, things made sense with the walkways, the power collector, etc. Lately, however, it's been getting stranger and stranger. Could it be that someone has gained access to the Teledahn Descriptive book and is practicing their 'art'? At first I thought only D'ni could Write, but I remember Catherine doing some, both at the coaching of Gehn and Anna.

Sharper was working on the restoration of Teledahn, it would be nice to learn if he has any info on someone having the Descriptive book. I'd also like him to comment on the what and why of his trapping and killing of a 'shroomie'..at least that's what I gather from his journal. Was it for personal gain, Mr. Sharper?

Yes, Saxy, if you haven't read the books, you should. They're a wealth of info. Haven't read Book of D'ni yet because I'm going through the history in order.

1) Comic Book (the origin of Writing)
2) Book of Ti'ana (awesome story. Really makes being in the City special)
3) Book of Atrus (this story leads directly into the game of Myst)
4) Myst (game) [This is where I'm at right now. Replaying RealMyst]
4a) Another comic book - "Book of the Black Ships"
5) Riven (game)
6) Book of D'ni
7) Exile (game)

It's great fun doing it this way and better for retention.

Albert, I think what you might be experiencing are passages from the Book of Buggs. LOL Laughing

Oooh, I've never looked at it that way before, Askew! Thanks! Well, I've read The Book of Ti'ana, played Myst, and have played Riven, but I haven't taken a look at the rest. I have a lot of catching up to do! Shocked

BTW, do you know where I could find a copy of those comic books?

Good question. All the novels are out of print, but I haven't heard a thing about the comic books. I'd like to know as well.

I think that the Descriptive Book would have been in the Book Room of the household of the owner of Teledahn (maybe chained to a desk?), or in the hands of Maintainers before the Fall.... The DRC probably does not go to every Age they find a Linking Book to, I think they would probably need a Book of Commentary if not the Book itself (I don't believe the DRC has the Art though).
So I would think that the DRC would have the Descriptive Book probably. In which case I am not sure who could make changes.
I am actually not sure which changes you refer to, but since I have never visited the Age, that is probably why.

Just to warn you Professor the comic books are not canon, similar to the Riven Journals, created to promote and sell rather than immerse I think. They are sold out and a rare find, too, so I have never read them.

Edit: Apparently they are easy to find, actually.
Also: I think Exile had the Millers' 'blessing' with the events that took place but I'm 95% certain the comics were dismissed as non-historical media on a few occasions

My resource for this info was the timeline kept at http://www.myst5.com. The comic books were pretty hard to find. I'd certainly start with eBay. And I shop at http://www.milehighcomics.com quite often. The books were released by Dark Horse Comics. I believe they were tied in with one of the game releases. "The Book of the Black Ships" states part one of four but they only printed part one. Happy hunting!

EDIT: You are probably right, Zen (although I thought I read that the writers had Cyan's blessing). And so far there has been no conflict of history.

The novels may be out of print, but there are plenty available... just check Amazon.com and EBay...I got all 3 online last week, plenty of sellers that have them available. Atrus was only $5 and change for a new paperback.
