With a little bit of time to kill until the next season's episodes come together, how about we post some of our thoughts for some of the unanswered question remaining from the past season.
Let colaborate and converse, and see what we all think about stuff...
For instance... what is the Greater Purpose (if any) for the Spinning Tower of Wedges in Relto? or what about the Island of Sparks?
What other questions do we not have answers to yet? and what do you think the answers are? _________________ KI 182798
Science is how you talk about the universe with words that bind it to a common reality.
Magic is how you talk to the universe with words that it cannot ignore. |

Excellent idea for a topic and I would post fully but I have company on the way over and an untidy flat so... *rushes away*
Although I will say about the rings of stone on Relto... check my Watcher's Quote on the imager in the 'hood |

That is a great suggestion, in general, CJ, though I have no
idea, what the Greater Purpose of the sparkly assembly or the
rings of stone could be... /shrug
I'm curious and excited to get to know that, of course, and can't
wait for its revelation by the Makers... if anybody has any more
thoughts/ideas to those mysterious gifts, I'd like to speculate and
give my two cents to that...
But I, myself, haven't too many questions left atm, if any...
I feel a nice emptiness... a good one and not really empty,
actually holding everything, that will be revealed in the future,
in its proper time, and I feel very good like this...
The Words are not too easy to apply here, maybe you can, Dan...
Quote: | A new tree buries the beliefs of old;
A tree of stone and power.
Deep roots sustain it;
Roots that absorb the waters of the past;
Waters long forgotten
But still flowing underground;
Under new trees, with barks of life
And rings of stone |

Warning, this could be a long post.
Don't know whether I see a link just because I'm a "Words" geek and try to find parallels in the pressent day but I think that quote, the one I posted on the imager could be Yeesha's inspiration for the odd rings on Relto.
I've always looked on "Words" as being written in an unusual interlace structure (like the linguistic equivellant of Celtic knotwork) and that makes it difficult to pin point too many exact meanings and very easy to draw comparsions. Mostly though I just kinda go on gut feeling.
Now take that quote:
Quote: | A new tree buries the beliefs of old;
A tree of stone and power.
Deep roots sustain it;
Roots that absorb the waters of the past;
Waters long forgotten
But still flowing underground;
Under new trees, with barks of life
And rings of stone |
While you could probably also argue that the new tree and old tree equate to The D'ni and The Ronay respecively for this I'm going to look on the Uru as the New Tree(s) and the D'ni as the Old Tree.
Now in general the message is that although the new community is replacing the community that once existed, on some basic level the two communities are linked. Both communities are controlled by flowing water (and as Yeesha said "water flows where it wills".) So both the new Uru is influenced by the same deep deep currents that influenced the D'ni.
The water is described as the "waters of the past" so, obviously, how our community (our tree) forms is based on what we learn from the past. Now whle the D'ni tree was one of "stone" and "power" with "deep roots" sustained by the past (sustained by tradition) our tree is one with a bark of "life" (growing from the past.)
So while the D'ni tree was rigid, held fast by its traditions (roots) burried deeply in the (waters of the) past our tree is ever changing. We feed on the D'ni past as well but from that we learn lessons, like the lessons learned from the Journey.
As we explore and learn more of the D'ni, learn to work together, take what was good from the D'ni and understand what was bad so our tree grows.
With every journey, every lesson, forming a new ring in our tree. A strong ring of stone. So while the bark is soft and ever-changing the core of the tree grows stronger with every passing day, month, year.
The ring "tree" on Relto is a visual metaphor for this growth I think. |

That's a very nice and reasonable interpretation, Dan, thanks
I also like those "Words" very much and have been seeking for
answers inside of/between the lines very often... Most is or seems
quite obvious, but everything is expressed in a way that allows
varied interpretations, that sometimes even depend on the special
situation you're about to apply them to... |
