Listening to the Riven soundtrack at the moment and there's just something amazing about it. I love all the other soundtracks, Myst, Exile and Uru. But the Riven one I listen to a lot. That opening music still sends chills down my spine, and I can hear the words of Atrus as he says 'maybe I can show you a way back' or something similiar and holds up the linking book showing you the panel and the music starts. Has to be one of the best game intro's. But the music is so emotional, each piece conveying meaning and depth to the story your witnessing around you. |

"There's also a chance, if this all goes well, that I might be able to get you back to the place that you came from."
Riven movie player is fun! I've memorized every character movie.
Yes. I is incredible. although I skip past the gateroom track, because it brings back too many annoying memories. mainly, I listen to Catherine's Freedom. The percussion, with the pizzicato, I love it! _________________ No-one has explained WHY a raven is like a writing desk! |

Thanks for the link Trahald, I couldn't remember Atrus's exact words
Yes I really like Catherine's Freedom, it's a great piece of music, also love Temple, Village Entrance Theme and Moeity Theme. |

I do a lot of typing and data entry and always have my headphones on. My favorites are the Myst and Riven soundtracks, they are both works of art and I never get tired of them. Of course I have to sandwich Enya in there somewhere. Now I miss my Mac I had the Stoneship age telescope music on my clock. Why can't we do that with a PC, I have always wondered? |

Hi Miranda
Yeah I have to sandwich Enya between the soundtracks as well, since the ending of Uru Live I've been listening to her album 'The Memory of Trees' a lot, very fitting I feel.
Have you heard of a group called 'Clannad'? If you like Enya you might like them if you haven't heard them before. She started out in Clannad and Clannad is comprised of most of her family, brothers, sisters and uncles, etc. There music is much more Irish based and traditional. You might even have heard some of their music, they did some music for the film 'Last of the Mohicans'. We had a TV series over here in England in the 80's called 'Robin of Sherwood' that they did the music for. Very haunting and beautiful, especially with images of Sherwood Forest at night filled with mist and stags running through it. |

Robyn Miller was a genius. Still is, I guess, although we don't hear much from him ever. I can't feel Tim Larkin's stuff the same way. He (Robyn) and Richard Vander Wende are the main part of what made Riven the most impressionable of the Myst series, for me.
The first few tracks, esp. Gateroom, set the mood. They're excellent, of course, but.... when I hear them I feel like I did when I first played Riven. The feeling that I associated with the nature of the task that Atrus had bestowed upon the traveler.
After those initial Temple-island-ish tracks, the Moiety tracks are amazing. The feeling behind those tracks is something that I really feel, when I think about the Great Tree, and the caverns of D'ni, and the past/present/future of things in general. It's kind of connected to.... well, ....although I wouldn't presume to state that I know the Circle.... it does remind me of the Circle.
Fissure Theme, the last on the CD I believe, was great stuff as well.... Really makes you think. |
