Has anyone else seen the "Appearance of Uru" (I think thats what its called) by tkwiggins? I must have downloaded it a while back and forgotten about it. Rediscovered it today and it is breathtaking... although I suspect it may have also brainwashed me.

Some of the shots of the Great Zero must have been quite hard to get without having your camera snapped in half though.

I have a lot of Uru movies but that one doesn't sound familiar. Any idea if I can still get my hands on it and if so where?

Indeed I watched it a few times today and one of those times I spent trying to work out where each part was from. It amazing that I didn't recognise the reflection of the Arch in the lake at first.

It certainly highlights the huge amount of detail put into the city and ages of the D'ni.

But the actual editing is astounding too. The climax, part way through, is amazing as are the transitions. In particular the change from imager to bahro cave pool and the fade from spores falling on teledahn's sea to star scape were both, as I said above, breathtaking.

Well done Tk remind me to buy you a drink next time I catch you in the city... oh wait no pubs... okay you can have some of rations Razz

Very well done, tk. Very moving and visually challenging. Are you a Kubrick fan by any chance? I'm still not sure how you accomplished all of it and that irks me. What editing program did you use? Premier?

Thanks again for your kind words everyone!

Very Happy

@ Professor Askew: it was shot with flymode on Fraps; video and audio edited in Premiere 1.5. And yes, I'm a Kubrick fan!

As a side note... the piece was made as both tribute and commentary -- its "story" was inspired by the angst of the UU community, c. spring-summer 2005. Uru is represented by trapezoidal shapes and paths-of-movement that suggest the Arch of Kerath. The conflict in the community is represented by the music, editing and certain images (i.e. sharp-edged, upside-down trapezoids warily circling each other inside the Nexus podium). Conflict increases until Uru itself "rebels." Calm is restored. Far in the distance, echoing as if in a cavern, an old man sings a prayer, the words of which we can't understand. Dark clouds portend renewed conflict. People are heard chanting together, invoking the dawn of a new day -- but what future it brings is unknown.

I was completely enchanted by this when I first saw it. I've saved it to my computer and I watch it on occasion. Aside from my Uru fandom, it's simply a wonderful piece of ambient experience.
