So all of this hubbub about Uru coming back has made me have a bite of nostalgia and wonder, and I've been wondering about this forum as well as the state of Uru when it returns. Two topics in one... two for one deal?
1) With the new Uru being after of the original timeline, having Zandi invite explorers again and the story starting over wouldn't make much sense. So! We can only assume that the start of the new Uru will be different than that of Uru Prime. Since Cyan is no longer restricted by the Prime objective, they have more liberty for the beginning. With this we must consider: Will we start with our Relto books? Will we journey through the Cleft again? The journey cloths? Is Prime relevent now, 2 years later?
With the changes Myst V brought into the mix, going through the original journey would be redundant to the events of M5. We know that the events of M5 have passed, so we can assume things must move forward...
2) The Cavern and Pub areas of this forum used to have a greater IC focus, and that focus being quite loose in this community in particular (regarding that fine line between what's real and what's not). I don't mind things the way they are, but I enjoyed having a more immersive IC aspect to our community. Should we fly by the seat of our pants as always, or perhaps adapt towards that focus when in need? |

1) Well, it's been confirmed that UruLive will not begin at the Cleft in an effort to get more people together into the heart of Uru from the get-go. And then presumably work outward from there. Whether that means Yeesha's original Journey will remain intact remains to be seen. My guess is that the Journey will remain the same. Somehow we have to get our KI quickly in order to communicate. That means we may see Gahreeson before we even get to our Reltos.
Some are hoping (and I guess I'm one of them) that we start in the volcano (or maybe the lodge) and make our way to D'ni through the myriad of tunnels and the Great Shaft. Maybe along the way we stumble upon a KI dispenser. But, of course, none of this explains how we would obtain a Relto book.
I believe that Prime is still relevant because it was never really followed up. Okay, we've released the Bahro and..? What, Myst V? I don't think so. Especially if the Bahro tie in with Phil Henderson in any way. We'll just have to wait and see.
2) And I would love to see a more IC focus back on the boards in the future. I suppose we should wait until UruLive relaunches, when there's something new happening, but we'll see about that, too. Aside from the Great Tree, I never really noticed much IC-ness going on unless Explorers were actually confronted with DRC members or events. It will be interesting to see when a full-blown Live launches with new content and story elements what the participation level will actually be. _________________ Professor Daniel Askew - Securing our reality from the machinations of the Station Masters. |

1) I'm thinking the DRC will be involved this time around. They're coming across much more moderate this iteration (having taken the journey and all), and the emphasis seems to be more on the community as well, which they more or less officially run (see emphasis on guild and player created content). Thus, a formal inviation from the DRC is actually a possibility, and from the IC perspective, makes the most sense to me.
Have they formally said whether or not the story would pick up where it left off? I guess I always just assumed it would.
I don't think we know for sure that Myst V has happened in a 'cannon' way. We were told that it would be incorporated, but in a way that we 'won't expect.'
I suspect that we won't get the opportunity to walk through the same caverns that Atrus & family did, sadly. One of the concerns with the original beginning was that it failed to expose new players to the commmunity fast enough. Vast cavern complexes would seem to exacerbate this problem. I'm expecting more in the order of a direct port to the Library or the docks.
2) I miss the ICness too. Of course, all our emotional investment is OOC at the moment. Once the challenges move from the surface to the cavern, so will we _________________ The laws contrived by the Proud are their security, and their undoing. I like the way you expressed that thought. _________________ Durin Mephit * Member of Guild of Messengers - Unless otherwise stated, opinions are mine only and not Guild endorsed.
