Wow. I can see your tonsils! Hey, everybody! Brian has tonsils!
Ahem.
Back on topic, more or less: maybe there's an idea for a video in here. "Secret (or at least relatively little-known) Places in D'ni."
Edit: it is unseemly for a newcomer to so grossly misspell the name of the Great Tree's Fearless Leader.

I discovered this shortly after finishing PotS. This makes perfect sense, seeing that the path is actually a shell -- a connected spiral back to where you began. I believe I mentioned this to some of you at Mysterium... |

Yup, I'd noticed that too. Insidiously clever!

Is it not? I thought that place with the curtained alcoves and curving stairway is the Guild Hall. If it isn't, then what place was Sharper talking about? And where is the real Guild Hall? |

The Guild Hall is way up high but under the Great Zero. It's where Phil had his accident......and linked out before he was hurt! I believe you can see it from the Takotah courtyard if you stretch your neck.
The sanctuary is in J'taeri, I think, where Ae'gura and the rest are not. The Watcher's Sanctuary is the only known way to visit J'taeri at this time...by way of link. (I could be wrong about J'taeri but it's definitely not the Guild Hall which is in Ae'gura. _________________ Professor Daniel Askew - Securing our reality from the machinations of the Station Masters. |

Yer right Prof, J'taeri is not in Ae'gura. I don't even know if it's on the island, it may be City proper (can't remember). The Guild Hall is on the line that goes from the GZ out to the Arch - stand at the top of the stairs with yer back to the arch and look up. That whole mountain is the Guild Hall. Sharper's office would have originally belonged to some guildsman or another.
There's a lot of confusion about "the pub", cuz there's two different ones, and Sharper referenced both. "Sharper's Pub" is more formally called the "Kahlo Pub", and is the ruined one halfway up the Stairs. That's the one the GT stormed back in Prologue. "The Great Tree Pub" is the one we see in TPotS, and is in J'taeri. We know Sharper was intersted in it, but I don't recall offhand what his actual involvement was. Interesting note on that - it was built without doors, the ONLY way in is by linking. Nice way to build an exclusive clubhouse - if you don't have a book or know someone with a book, you can't get in.
Definetly helps keep the riff-raff out... _________________

The Kahlo Pub we broke into -- the one halfway up the Great Stair -- was being worked on by the DRC, but was blocked off at the time.
"Sharper's Pub" was actually the Great Tree Pub aka The Watcher's Sanctuary (which I still believe is located in the J'Taeri District on Ae'gura...). He was in charge of restoring it before it was confiscated for assisting in the Kahlo Pub break-in. |

I think you're right, Rils, about J'taeri being in the City Proper. _________________ Professor Daniel Askew - Securing our reality from the machinations of the Station Masters. |

This has been bugging me all morning so I did some research.
Though not all exactly accurate, here's what I got.
From Tales of D'ni Places
Quote: | J'Taeri - A respectable district in the Lower City near the harbor, this is where A'Gaeris's headquarters are, and where Aitrus and Veovis are lured to become entangled in a conspiracy against D'ni. The building A'Gaeris headquarters in has the appearance of a respectable merchant's house overlooking the harbor and Kerath's Arch. |
And from a D'ni timeline:
Quote: | 775 - Much private construction on Ae'gura, including J'Taeri district (named after dead first son of King Ja'kreen). |
I also distinctly remember Sharper telling me it was in Ae'gura... |

hmm, peculiar. Seems it is on the island, though the reference to "Lower City" is a bit confuzzling. ::Rils bows before Daed, the Trivia Master::
That's one, err, "inconsistency" though, is the size of the island. The books make it sound quite large, but IC it's just not that big! Kind of misleading... _________________

Something in Daed's response (info provided by websites) doesn't sit right with me. Guess I'll have to dig a little and find out why. _________________ Professor Daniel Askew - Securing our reality from the machinations of the Station Masters. |

I went back to look at those coordinates, having calibrated my KI yesterday (this is much easier with a record of where all the markers are). Verified that the pellet test station is at 1912.1562.-164. The upper level, where the images was taken, is at elevation -163. So, it's a deep hole, and what I thought was the Cavern shore really isn't. Just an amorphous red layer of vapor or something. I wonder how the D'ni found this place. |

J'teri is somewhere behind the Museum (I suspect that the back door of the museum opens to J'teri or thereabouts). As we don't really know the geography of the Island in that area, it may well be called the "lower city" in that area.
Also, how could you possibly get a coordinate reading for the Nexus? It's not in the Cavern, if it were it would defeat the point of having it! |
