A friend of mine just suggested that we extend the RSS on the website to announce the new videos when they are posted.
Re: the media page...
my friend wrote: | ah, you already have an rss feed on that page
you just need to put in the special links to the videos
if you do, then my rss client will automatically download the videos and let me play them
the keyword to search for is "rss enclosures"
it's a special type of link in an rss feed that points to other media like an mp3 or video |
This is a little over my head, but maybe Brian understands it?
I did catch him off guard though. I asked:
Marten wrote: | Not certain if you want to download every language on the page Does RSS know how to check the browser language preference and pick the right content to show? |
Then he admitted he wasn't sure if that was possible. Heh-heh. _________________ Durin Mephit * Member of Guild of Messengers - Unless otherwise stated, opinions are mine only and not Guild endorsed.

Well, I can add a different RSS feed for the videos on the Media page... It's on my list of things-to-do. _________________ #Brian Fioca

For those non-techies int he group, dose that mean the main page will have a little box that video plays in automatically when you load the front page? What does that do to loading times, and do I really need/want to see it every time I show up here? _________________

I believe it would mean that people who reach the page via an RSS feed, rather than a normal web browser, would get an automatic download of the video... if and only if they have not previously downloaded the video.
Part of the idea behind RSS is to aggregate content for you automatically, but not to fetch the same thing twice.
At least, that is my layman's understanding of it. _________________ Durin Mephit * Member of Guild of Messengers - Unless otherwise stated, opinions are mine only and not Guild endorsed.

marten,
i really wonder why you don't know about rss feeds,
cause yourself provide them on your yahoo groups site,
or is it a service, given by yahoo what you don't know of?
on that site down right of the recent messages there's an
orange button, called rss. besides it, there is a little link
called "what's this?". clicking on it you get a brief introduction, what
rss feeds are. clicking on the orange rss button, you'll get a real
example of what that is.
there is software, rss feed reader programs, that you can use as
a convenience, to load those given rss feeds provided by more and
more websites which offer lots of information, to make you able
to always have the best news on hand inside that mentioned
feed readers without having to visit all websites that contain them
all the time.
your friend marten, would like to have such rss feeds, that provide
all downloads availaible by a separate link. that would be possible, maybe,
but who will look after that? who will care for those feeds?
you should ask him if he would like to do the maintenance of that
i think here is enough to do...
jana
btw our rss feeds are on the top right of our homepage, o o... |

Yahoo does the group RSS feeds. It is automatic.
And I understand that Brian and Daedalus' time to maintain this site is limited. I was merely passing along the suggestion from my friend after I showed him the page. My friend thinks that everything technical is easy. I understand differently. _________________ Durin Mephit * Member of Guild of Messengers - Unless otherwise stated, opinions are mine only and not Guild endorsed.

To assist with additional translations, I've posted the Episode Zero script as a word document.

This is a tiny little movie, 115 KB...
sel-tahn is going to confirm for me that I've picked the right words.
