Thank you Marten, Rex and Eleri. I would like to offer my sincerest apologies to all those on my friend's list and hope that none of you got infected like I did. Yeah, I made the gawd awful mistake on trusting a link from someone I knew, that was in my friends list on MSN Messenger. It is not unusual for me to send and receive links through MSN and do this several times a week on average.
This one though ... even though I felt a red flag pop up in my head ... but too late ... I had already clicked the link ... and before I knew it, I had dozens and dozens of MSN windows popping up. I immediately shut down MSN and unplugged my ethernet cable from my computer. But the damage had already severly infected my computer.
I had the following adwares installed:
adware.look2me
adware.dollarrevenue
drivecleaner
spyware.marketscore
I was able to clean out the latter three and some extensive attempts ... but the look2me one was quite persistant. After a ful afternoon and following morning ... and realizing how much further damage was caused to many of my installed programs ... it literally zapped a good number of registry entries making it impossible to uninstall and reinstall most of my protection software. I finally opted for the best and easiest route ... a complete low-level format and reinstall. I was able to save most of my documents and a few saved games.
I'm still not quite sure exactly what happened though. I do have my computer set up in such a way that ANY program being installed has to be verified and approved TWICE in order to run. I could imagine I may have hit the "RUN" button by mistake ... but not twice. Anyway, I had tried all the sugestions from numerous sites to remove these malicious programs and none worked. Even the registry strings they recommended searching for and deleting didn't exist ... so I couldn't even find the blasted thing to remove it.
Anyway ... I somewhat back up and running. Have all the primary programs installed and all current updates. I haven't installed any of my games yet, including UrU. I'll be back in the cavern as soon as I can though. I'm seriously debating whether to install any Instant Messengers at the moment though. Needless to say ... I have every reason not to right now. I'm also not sure if this actually came through MSN of through Yahoo as I was using the Windows Messenger Live with the Yahoo add-on.
I will post again if and when I decide to install any IM programs ... so for now DO NOT accept any IM messages from CAGrayWolf untill I state otherwise. _________________

Wolfie, I changed your text colour at the bottom to something a bit more readable and noticable. I hope you don't mind, I just wanted to make sure people got the message as clear as possible.
Green backgrounds and red text kind of throb eerily. D: _________________ KI: 34353 |

I have decided to delete my MSN/Windows Live account and create a new one. I copied my old friend's list before deleting my account and will be adding back most of you as I have the time to do so. I chose no to actually back up my friends list and instead just did a copy and paste into MSWord.
I know who I received this file (link) from and will do what I can to contact that person as well. They are in Europe so I have to find the forum where they post and look for this person there. I'm sure they were as much a victim as I was in this unfortunate incident.

No problem ... and I agree. Just wanted to be sure the warning was read. _________________

I'm sorry this happened, CAGrayWolf..
I will never, ever understand why people create programs just for the damage they will do. Makes me sick to think about it. _________________ ~Moiety Jean
