|
|
Yeesha mentions how she has surpassed the writing ability of her father as well as the D'ni in general. This seems to be her ability to write in changes to existing ages. I'm curious as to why she would have this power or how she got it. It seems to me that she may have learned this from the Bahro. I've seen some references to the Bahro displaying this ability. Causing changes in weather being the most prevalent. Anyone else have any thoughts on this? _________________ KI# 00635697 |

I don't believe Yeesha can change Ages... but that she has a very skilled finesse at writing Ages that are similar to other Ages. Alternative branches on the Great Tree of Possibilities.
The Bahro, on the other hand... well, I personally suspect that the Bahro have powers beyond what Yeesha, or any of the D'ni, were able to perform on their own. They may indeed be able to criss-cross branches of the Tree. That would be a powerful explanation for why the D'ni kept them enslaved. _________________ Durin Mephit * Member of Guild of Messengers - Unless otherwise stated, opinions are mine only and not Guild endorsed.

Hmm, I considered the different yet similar ages but this just does not jive with me. Mainly because of the Relto Ages. It is a static age that by using the Relto pages she has provided we are able to alter.
This is probably an old topic that has been hashed around a lot already but just something that has been intriguing me lately. _________________ KI# 00635697 |

It might behoove us to return to the "empty" vault room in Kadish and re-read the torn Relto pages found on the floor... _________________ URU Live KI #: 50911 MOULa KI #11697212

Reach the vault of Kadish Tolesa, and look around carefully. There is more than one book to be found, there.
Also, with Relto... you can change the pages to your Relto book, but if there is anyone in your Relto, as you leave and return, the changes do not take effect. The changes in your Relto book only take effect when nobody is in your Relto Age. So, there is something else curious going on there... it's a little like the deceit behind Ahnonay, if you ask me. _________________ Durin Mephit * Member of Guild of Messengers - Unless otherwise stated, opinions are mine only and not Guild endorsed.

Random thoughts on Relto alterations:
I was thinking about just that the other day Marten (you know you play too much Uru when...) and it reminded me a bit of the whole Schrodinger's kitty bit. Maybe changes can't take effect because that dimension is already being observed (the very act of observation affecting the outcome). So mabye the Relto Ages are specially designed to have no observers in them as default... at all... anywhere. So that they work?
Did that make sense?
Would it help if I yelled 'indeterminancy' for a while? |

Actually, no deceit - it adheres to the laws of quantum physics. The Great Tree of Possibilities is the branching 'tree' of quantum events. According to one interpretation of Bell's Theorem (which linking confirms, now that I think of it), all of these possibilities exist simultaneously.
We just travel down one of these paths. This is called 'collapsing the state vector' - determining which reality you exist in. This is done by the act of observation. You observe a quantum reality, it is part of your reality.
It seems that changing your Relto book doesn't change your Relto, rather it changes where your book takes you, to a slightly different quantum variation of your Relto (this on has sticks, this one doesn't but has a waterfall, etc). However, if someone else is in your Relto, then they are observing it - they are collapsing the state vector on that Relto link. Once everyone is gone, however, the vector state of the Relto book is no longer observed, and changeable.
Heh. Now that I think of it, linking answers some of the greatest scientific mysterious of the last 100 years. Go figure. Now why aren't there more than archaeologists and amateur spelunkers down there?
Edit: Looks like dcosgrove beat me to it. That's what I get for walking away while in the middle of a post |

Made more sense than my reference to "schrondinger's kitty" so you still win Blade.
Reading your post the link to Ahnonay brought up before really struck me. Except of course Kadish did it by mechanical means that cunning devious son of a squee. |

He does that sometimes. Makes everyone around him sit in a sort of awe. He's my in-house Guru, available for parites and Bar Mitzvahs _________________

Atrus was able to alter Ages -- after all, that's what Riven was all about: Atrus had to be writing patches to the Age in such a subtle way that the Link wouldn't shift to a new Age.
So whatever Yeesha can do must be more than that. |
