Today (December 21), Dr. Kodama made another visit to Ae'gura. I was not present, but a fellow explorer posted a transcript, and if his notes are an accurate portrayal of the event, then I am very annoyed at some explorers' behavior towards the DRC.
I was sharing my opinion with another explorer, Tweek, and he had this to say (which I fully agree with):
Tweek wrote: | It feels like a "Oh hey the DRC were bad eggs first time around, lets be mean to them cause we don't agree, its ok cause people were doing that before" |
I'm OK with asking the DRC serious questions about serious topics. I can be persuaded to disregard DRC instruction where I don't believe they have the authority or knowledge to advise with reason. But heckling and mocking the DRC in public as demonstrated this morning? No wonder the DRC have made themselves scarce and implemented the liaison system for managing Town Halls over the past year since the Restoration began anew. If explorers keep this treatment up, they'll probably revert back to that strategy again, and we won't see any DRC members in open public ever again. They'll hide from us. And I wouldn't blame them one bit.
I understand that some members of the DRC aren't very likeable. But can't we be better people and rise above that, and show them a little respect (even if they don't show much to us)?

I have to agree with you, Marten. I read that transcript and found it frustrating, especially considering the extra pressure the DRC must be having with the Bahro situation and the influx of explorers. We need to remember the Golden Rule, not an eye for an eye.
On a slightly related note, I'm thinking that we need to really make sure to ask good, unique questions of the DRC. EVERYONE is asking "when will things be open?" If it's been asked a million times and the answer is "we don't know" or "near future," we're probably not going to get a different response the million-and-first time. Let's try to make the best use of these opportunities and by doing so open up better paths of communication. |

I was there... and I really got a bit annoyed...
30 times: "When will the barriers go away?? "
They have only been there for a day yet!! After what happened Tuesday, the DRC has to investigate the place. If they didn't do that... that would mean they didn't care...
6 times: "Do you know where Dr. Watson is??"
I had a long tallk about this in the City a few hours ago... I think many people are "nagging" now.
I found this very frustrating... |

If people could point me to where the chatlogs are, I'm tihnking about compiling them into a FAQ so people know what's been asked. |

Oh thank god, I'm not the only person for whom reading that log was like listening to nails scrape across a chalkboard.
If Kodama is going to answer a few questions... why not ask a few questions he might know the answer to? The restoration phases of different Ages, since the DRC website hasn't updated with that information yet?
Bah. "Do you feel like Darth Vader". What a waste of everyone's time. _________________ KI: 34353 |

I agree that there are some very insulting questions and assanine ones as well, but I also am not terribly surprised concidering the large number of new explorers that are appearing in the cavern.
So I think we are seeing a combonation of new explorers with lots of questions and not knowing or understanding the culture that is present in the cavern, combined with a select number of exsisting explorers demonstrating a clearly 'bad additude' toward the DRC. Each of which are probably feeding into one another. _________________ KI# 00635697 |

DJC is working on a Vault of Transcripts, we have logs from the last couple of days of all the meetings that went on and we are in the process of filling up the backlog from past transcripts.
You can check them out here, hopefully people will find it helpful/useful: Transcripts _________________ Grey Skies | Beneath |

When it comes to choosing sides, I think it is a matter of compromise... The DRC are concerned with the safety of the explorers, and restoring D'ni technology that will aid us in our explorations (e.g.: repairing the KI lattice, calibrating the Great Zero, etc.). The Great Tree members are concerned with the "spiritual" rehabilitation of D'ni, in order to prevent history from repeating itself (e.g.: the abuse of, or enslaving the Bahro)...
I don't mind helping the DRC with beneficial technological restoration efforts, in fact, I look forward to the challenge. In return, I hope that the DRC will freely share their knowledge and provide us with free access to new ages as they are discovered. If they don't, I'm certain that the Bahro will... _________________ URU Live KI #: 50911 MOULa KI #11697212

It makes me sad to see such asinine responses to Dr. K. He's been so patient with the explorers this far. I give him kudos; I think I would've kicked everyone down the Great Stairs if I were him.
I know you guys know this already because you're great like that, but to say it anyways, I think it's important that we representing the Great Tree give the DRC the same respect they've been showing the explorers as of late. Like Marten said, if they do anything to provoke us, of course we'll maturely disagree with them and take appropriate measures, but if the explorers continue to treat the DRC like this, I wouldn't be surprised to see a knee-jerk reaction.
In fact, I think it'd be great if we brainstorm a list of interesting, thought-provoking, timely, and answerable questions for the DRC should we ever bump into them in the cavern. _________________

I maintain that we should invite Kodama and the rest of the DRC to the 'hood and have some sort of party. Nothing too crazy, just to show we appreciate what they're doing. _________________ KI: 34353 |

Well I probably didn't help matters much by my comment on Wednesday about "Typical DRC arrogance", and like I told Marten, I'll keep things toned down a bit. But we have to remember, this is new for a lot of us. Usually I'm not around during the day when most such events occur. So it will take some time to feel things out and get use to spontaneous DRC visits, for everyone. To learn what questions should be asked, how to keep things in perspective, and get the most out of those encounters. But I'm not going to sugar coat everything either and kiss the feet of the DRC I don't think they really expect it. I have no doubt that Kodama expected some kind of response with his statement: "We are in charge now" My response had to do with personal experiences with those in authority that abuse their power in RL.
Gadren's posting on the DRC forum are some good guidelines to follow and I'll keep those in mind the next time I'm in the cavern with the DRC:
