Myst fans have a well known obsession with journals. The games which first taught us of D'ni (long before we even dreamed it was real) relied quite heavily on what information we could gleam from them. It was one of our main ways of gaining insights and getting to know the characters. However, this isn't a game. Sure we all want to get to know Sharper better but he isn't some NPC in a computer game he is a real person.
He has not yet specifically told us NOT to read his journals but recently he did hint that it was akin to having someone staring through the windows of your house or stealing your car. No doubt, knowing that people read it, he will use it to get information out there from time to time. Of course it is still his journal and he could just leave us notes on his desk.
What do you folks think, should we continue reading Sharper's journal? |

While I certainly do respect the man's privacy, at the same time, it's one of the only sources of current information we have. Except for Nick's visits to the Cavern, there's little word on what the DRC is even doing, let alone behind-the-scenes info.
In fact, I've learned more about what my job with them will be from the journal than I have from actually talking to Nick! I haven't even met Sharper yet...
So with all due respect to him, I personally will continue to snoop, as it were. _________________

Sharper is aware people are linking in and out of the office, and he should know people are reading his journal, as several people have brought it up to him.
I assume, then, that being a smart guy, he's realized the contents of the journal won't be private, and so he's currently using it more like a blog.
I can't imagine he's so oblivious it never occurred to him people might read it when they linked in, so I'm considering the journal public and fair game unless I'm told otherwise. Frankly, trying to get people not to read it at this point would be a losing battle.
