I have been giving alot of thought to this subject. In light of events of the past
week, I feel the necessity to ask an opinion.
The Cavern has been witness to death, and a possible threat of an unknown
origin. It has almost become dangerous for a lone Explorer to venture through
the Cavern.
Throughout history, communities have elected individuals to act as their eyes
and ears, night watchmen, constables, what have you. I believe our
community is no different.
Explorers should not have to walk our beautiful Cavern alone.
Here is a proposal: To organize an all-volunteer security/protective service for
the Cavern. I realize the DRC is responsible for Explorer safety and security,
but keeping with the spirit of community, it is of my opinion that Explorers
would feel safer with "one of their own".
Everyday we see these people on the Surface, bodyguards, security officers,
etc. I see a need for this service. I have a feeling there are those out there
that would provide it.
I have done unarmed security for over a decade, having patrols in the Cavern
and providing escorts in Ages would give a stronger feeling of security and
safety for our Community.
I really haven't decided on any details or other issues. I just wished to bring this
to the table. _________________ I am Arion Lightseeker, ever searching for Wisdom and Light. |

That's a good idea, and it may make people feel safer, but the Bahro have demonstrated themselves to be far more powerful than we could possibly defend ourselves against.
At this point, we can only presume we are able to remain there because they (at least some of them) don't care to kill us.
So, I don't know.. I personally wouldn't spend much time trying to be sure I had a partner before I wandered the cavern. :T _________________ ~Moiety Jean

Well maybe you should reconsider MJ. After all, you just have to link faster than your friend...

There have been times (and reported) that an explorer(s) couldn't link. There's your back up. _________________ I am Arion Lightseeker, ever searching for Wisdom and Light. |

Douglas Sharper reported that when he was in Negilahn and was lured into a trap by some of the Bahro that the Bahro could move so fast, he could not reach for his Relto and link away before they would be upon him.
That's something to think about. _________________ Durin Mephit * Member of Guild of Messengers - Unless otherwise stated, opinions are mine only and not Guild endorsed.

Hmmm...Good idea or bad idea? Will other Explorerers rally to this kind of cause? There may not be many, but only few will make a difference. _________________ I am Arion Lightseeker, ever searching for Wisdom and Light. |

Um, thanks but no thanks. I'm not a big fan of security guards. _________________ KI: 34353 |

I think the best thing for now is to travel together with friends. I don't think we need bodyguards... yet. |

That is not to say that all explorers feel the same way. Some might appreciate the idea of bodyguards. I would just hope that it not become a requirement. _________________ Durin Mephit * Member of Guild of Messengers - Unless otherwise stated, opinions are mine only and not Guild endorsed.

Well then, if this is plausible, I will go toward the next step. I'm going to have to draft some kind of modus operandi and other post details of this organization, or can I assume Branch, of the Great Tree? _________________ I am Arion Lightseeker, ever searching for Wisdom and Light. |

lol, I think Brian was being funny, Arionel.
I think it's a clever idea but I'm not sure I'd pin it as a Great Tree cause. If you'd like to organize something independantly, you should go for it!
Some people will appreciate a feeling of security that comes from having a person to explore with. However, I don't want to give people the idea that it could afford them any sort of protection against a hostile Bahro, because the evidence we have so far says that it can't. _________________ ~Moiety Jean
