Today is Queen's Day in the Netherlands like every year, and today the Royal family visited the city of Apeldoorn. I was watching on TV. The Royal family was just on their way to the palace there by bus while driving alongside the historical parade, when suddenly I heard a loud bang and a car drove right through the crowd at full speed, almost hit the bus and drove against a pinnacle. There were people lying on the street, among whom a young child, blood everywhere, people being reanimated.
The royal family, shocked, remained unharmed. All festivities have been cancelled. The question is whether it was an accident or an attack... I think it must have been an attack, because it must have been nearly impossible to get there with a car. Fourteen people are heavily injured.

I'm really shocked that something like that could happen today... Nothing like that ever happened on Queen's Day, there is always great celebration.

Right now, the Queen has just addressed everyone on the TV. Even the Queen could hardly hold back her tears; I had a lump in my throat seeing that. Sad

Saw video. That guy on the bike just missed being killed. Here's praying for everyone involved.

Right now, I've just seen some more close-up video shots, and it was so horrible that I can't even describe it... I saw one person literally flying through the air... Crying or Very sad

My first thoughts were of Erik and other friends there in the Netherlands when I read about the news this morning, and wondering how this would affect them. In the United States, we really do not know anything of Dutch politics, or why a person would attempt to do such a terrible thing. (I'm sorry to admit, I did not even know that the Netherlands have royalty.)

I hope that some light can be shed upon the motives of the individual who did this... though I doubt his actions will ever be fully understood, as they are the actions of a madman.
