Shocked ... (((Erik!!!)))... In the first moment I was really (positively) shocked... lol...
but then I saw the underlining "The Dark Book" and I knew this was not Cyan... Razz

Right now I have to say "They" are really cool, I mean I would never ever
dare to think about such a thing lol... but maybe that's just my narrowness haha...
...almost everybody knows about s.o. else's shard... and I've been there
for maybe two or three times, just to have a look, but this now is really something...
I wonder if they asked Cyan about it though it doesn't sound as if so...
Have to check the MOUL forums for further information...
This here is just my first reaction... lol... Smile

Did anyone watch the video?... they blew up The Great Tree... Shocked
I really have to check for more on the other forums... Very Happy

And MJ, I'm sooo glad that you're feeling home and comfortable and with
a feeling of improvement... So, you will be moving completely today, I suppose...
I'm wishing you both and the movers lots of fun and more excitement
and all the strength and power you might need... Blessings... /waves... Very Happy

Right now what a delicious cream, Tomala... just the right enrichment for
MJ's and Bri's mover team snack... Smile

Right now, I don't know if it's that cool... I'm sure there have been shards underground (don't ask me though, I honestly don't know about any shard), but by doing this in the open they may force Cyan to take measures.

Yeah, that's what I meant to express... cool in the sense of audacious
or daring... hehe... but on the other hand comprehensible as well... right now... Very Happy

Here are some things I noticed about the Pelishard effort.

(1) Rather than design their own website, they adapted a copy of Cyan's very nice, professional one. Does this seem right to you? Couldn't some people find this confusing?

(2) CrowThistle is not part of the Myst universe. And, I don't think you have to be a lawyer to guess that using CrowThistle content might exposes Pelishard to an even muddier legal situation, where Cecilia Dart-Thornton or Macmillan publishing could get involved. "With 350 companies operating in over 80 countries, the Macmillan Publishing Group is one of the largest and best known international publishing groups in the world." -- http://international.macmillan.com/

(3) Does anyone think it is strange that the Pelishard website includes a picture of Kahlo (MystLore: Kahlo) on the "Play" page? Why would they show an image of an Age that is Cyan property and that has never been released, as though they are going to put it up online? I cannot imagine that they have the Age in their possession.

Rogue private shards, kept quiet, I have no problem with. It allows people to work on things, but allows Cyan to 'not notice' without getting in weird legal straits.

This, however... it needlessly pulls these things out into the spotlight and will require a Cyan legal response. That might spur Cyan to getting OSMO out there. Or it might require them to start clamping down hard.

Though I understand the urge (and applaud the technical skill involved), it's very ill-conceived, and a little tacky. Over all, it's like school on Christmas - no class.

That's wonderful, Marten... Have a great and exciting time at the beach
and an inspiring 4th of July... Take care... Very Happy

It seems to be a time to rest right now... I've also taken two days off,
today and tomorrow, and many I know did so equally...
Have all a wonderful day and time... Razz

I think it's horrible. I've been against rogue shards, I've even been logging into them with a bunch of people to perform protests to try and get them to shut down. But no one is listening...

Thanks for posting that link, I have to blog about this.

Right now I'm wishing all our US residents and beloved friends of The Great Tree
and the URU/Myst community an exciting and spectacular INDEPENDENCE DAY!!!

...........

And as everything affects and applies to everybody and everything, those wishes and
blessings shall also embrace the rest of us... Have all an awesome weekend, esp. you,
dear MJ and Brian in your new residence!!!
...

.........................................

Right now while watching some of Obama's weekly addresses I found out on the WH blogs, that...

Lady Liberty's Crown Opens on 4th of July
They say, about 20 lucky visitors will be among the first to climb the 354 steps to the crown on Saturday morning
July 4th marks the first time visitors can tour the crown since it was closed following the 9/11 attacks...
About 240 visitors per day will be able to tour the crown...

... and you can also take a Virtual Tour around Lady Liberty, the museum, Liberty Island, the artist/sculptor,
the stages of creation and everything around and about it... This is very wonderful presented with 360-degree
panoramas, videos, pictures and sounds... Really worth a look...
Please follow this link if you like to The statue of "Liberty Enlightening the World"... Have fun all... Very Happy

Thanks Jana.

I think it's very heartening that the government here has decided to re-open the Statue of Liberty's crown. 240 people per day doesn't seem like much though. I wonder how many people were allowed per day prior to 9/11.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statue_of_Liberty

"When the interior was open, visitors arrived by ferry and could climb the circular single-file stairs (limited by the available space) inside the metallic statue, exposed to the sun out in the harbor (the interior reaching extreme temperatures, particularly in summer), and about 30 people at a time could fit up into the crown."

"There are a maximum of 3,000 passes available each day (with a total of 15,000 visitors to the island daily). The interior of the statue remained closed until July 4, 2009 when tourism was reinstated to the statue interior, including the crown."

Unlike in the past, only 10 people will be permitted into the crown.

Right now welcome back, Marten!!! I hope you've had a great time... Very Happy

Right now... Thank you very much, semplerfi, for the Wiki link and info
and that very nice and touching LA Times report... That's really a very
special event and absolutely appropriate in these days and these new
times with all those changes and great developments ahead...
The LA article describes it very nicely...

And there was also a proposal involved... how lovely!!!... That man even
wrote to Obama "in a frantic search to guarantee tickets for the crown"
they say... lol...

It happened like this
"The only delay occurred when Aaron Weisinger of Danville, Calif., got down
on one knee, produced a huge diamond ring and proposed to Erica Breder,
his girlfriend of three years. She said yes."
Blessings and best of luck to them... Smile

And to the extreme temperatures you mentioned they say:
"Anbros and others described an arduous, claustrophobia-inducing trek,
where the heat from the sun blazing through the crown's small windows
turned the cramped quarters into a virtual sauna."... haha...

Thanks again... and a great evening to all... Very Happy

Right now,

The Pelishard site has replaced their original (stolen) site, with their own work. They're also no longer posting pictures or video. That pretty much covers all three of the concerns I had about it. I now rate them as having a considerably greater chance of surviving and not being sued into oblivion.

They've also now locked the member list on the forum so that non-members cannot see who is a member of the forum. It only took them a week to figure it out. Cool
