That's it, I've made a major blunder and I need tech help.

This morning, in my zeal to clean up my PC for school and new software, I inadvertantly deleted some important files for UU. I don't know how I did it because I tried to stay away from all things Uru except for Path of the Shell which I no longer needed and was in its own folder anyway. Once I was done with all my "cleaning up", I found that in the start menu, my little icon for UU was replaced by that OTHER icon that says, "we don't know what this is". Not a good sign. Everything I uninstalled or deleted was now gone. Bummer. I figured what I had to do was re-run the set-up and go from there. That went fine.....but it wouldn't authorize me. Fine. I went back to Cyan's UU web site with my little Kagi authorization code but it wouldn't let me re-register as they said they already had a user with that name. Drag. In hindsight, I probably should have chosen another user name but I probably would have run into other problems anyway with the same e-mail address and/or authorization code. But, then I had a brilliant idea.............

Brilliant, right. I decided to do an XP System restore using yesterday as my launch point. System store was successfull. Everything looked the same as it did before I started cleaning house. And there was the icon for UU. And when I started it up, lo and behold, there was Professor Askew and his password waiting to log in. That was about the last of the good news...........

I pinged the Tapestry Shard. Good ping. But then when I went into the game everything went wrong:
1) No Cyan music/logo intro.
2) Huge update like the old days in live.
3) No sound whatsoever.
4) Linked into Relto. There were no textures!! I couldn't move! I couldn't look around. Still no sound. Couldn't pull up my Relto book but I could open my KI (the last good news is that all my Buddy Lists were in tact, and pictures I took. I'll bet all my books were still on the shelf as well).

What should I do? I think the easiest thing to do is a complete re-install of Uru and UU. The only thing I'm worried about is this registration problem. Many of you out there will say, "why not just buy another authorization code? It's only $5.95." I'm not worried about the money, but I am concerned about trying to do this with my original User Name and e-mail account.

Is this going to be a problem? Am I over-thinking all this? I need guidance! Why couldn't I be a professor of computer science?!

Professor, do you know if your sav and vnode_cache folders are still intact? They should be in your main UU directory. If so, move them to someplace else safe like on your desktop. Next, completely remove Until Uru and if necessary, "Uru: Ages Beyond Myst. Next, re-install "Uru: Ages Beyond Myst". After that is done, install the Cyan UU patch. After that has all been completed, then move back the sav and vnode_cache folders to the UU folder. You should then be able to start up the client, enter your Kagi authorization code (the original), and get back to where you were.

If you need more detailed help, give me a shout on a PM. I've done this before myself when I was setting up my laptop and didn't want to loose my progress on the Tapestry shard.
