|
Today, I found in my KI inbox a cryptic message from the WE. The message is well documented in the UO forums here by CAGrayWolf who also recieved it, so take a look at it to see what I mean.
Some of the members had a quick discussion about it. *We all came to the conclusion that it was a message from Tyrehl, the original sender, stating the current status of URU in the poem:
There are those blind by nature
and those blind by nurture.
Many of you should begin to ask:
What flavor am I?
The former search with other senses;
the latter find a fortress in their
infirmity from which to loose arrows.
We arrived that those who were blinded by nature, those people just in for the show, just admire the scenery and nothing more. The one blind by nurture, those who are trying to help out any way they can, can actually help URU come back to life again in time.
Also the encrypted message at the end of it:
BpmXzwclLwVwbZmkmqdm.gtqaiMvwqbkmzzwKzWtmavcwK
Translated to this:
The Proud do not receive counsel or correction easily.
The people at the meeting decided it was a warning about the DRC's attempt to revive URU by rebuilding it to its former glory. Instead of just rebuilding URU ourselves, we need to help it grow instead.
*To all those present at the meeting, I'm so sorry if this wasn't the exact conclusion we came to. My memory isn't that good and I don't know how to use chatlogs. But it's close enough, right ?
Also, I left the letter on the Hood's Imager viewer for you viewing pleasure (what else, right?).
Feel free to add comments, corrections, or whatever. _________________ All the world's a stage, and my room happens to be the supply closet. |

Too late Cosgrove, I'm gonna spill the beans!
The message REALLY means....
ok, nevermind. I'll let you do it.

Ok, there's a new letter floating around. I recieved this one through an anonymous person. No, really, there was no name after the title.
The letter, shown here:
was mildly solved by Rils, dcosgrove, and I. We translated to first 6 lines and the first two letters of the seveth to:
"When you have been angered or hurt by anything external, have you ever considered that the pain may not be due to-"
However, the cypher changes. We might need some help on this one.
I'm starting to really think that two WE posts in a row seems a little odd, considering how the previous one was sent around a year after the last message known before that. But who knows. If this does continue, however, we might want to bring this up to Cyan, who may very well know of all of this. For now, it's a pleasing distraction. _________________ All the world's a stage, and my room happens to be the supply closet. |

This was solved over on the UO forums. Turns out the second half used a different "caesar" cypher, and runs backwards. The thing reads from the beginning to the first two letters of line 7 (the word "to"), then go to the end and read backwards towards the middle. The full message (edited for spelling errors in the orginal):
"When you have been angered or hurt by anything external, have you ever considered that the pain may not be due the thing itself, but rather your own estimate of it, and that this you have the power to revoke at any moment."
I'm definetly going with the "social commentary" route on this. Most unlike the previous WE posts. Wonder if there will be more.

What sucks is that I was sure I'd tried that combination to solve the last bit, and it didn't work the first time! grr, oh well. _________________

Ah well Rils we did good anyways, was certainly a lot of fun.
I outright forgot that I said I would elaborate on the first msg. Rils has already mentioned one of the more important points we discussed, that the message is a "social commentary" which is distributed in a way that would catch the attention of a community of puzzle loving explorers like ourselves. Very clever.
The actual meaning is pretty open to interpretation. However the way I understood it (and I think you and I were thinking along the same lines Rils) was that it was in responce to the way people are acting over this liason buisness. A case of the blind fighting the blind as it were. It seperates people into two groups, those who are naturally "blind" (who find ways to cope with their inability to take full account of the world) and those who just cannot "see" (who use their ignorance to defend their ego so that they can snipe in happy oblivion).
The second part seems simply a Yeesha style warning about pride. Although it may be specifically aimed at the DRC or whoever ends up being the liasons.
The new message seems to be along the same lines. A gentle reminder to be understanding and take a step back.
Very interesting.
I'll keep an eye out for you Prof but I don't suppose you could elaborate a bit more on who the "WE" are for us? |

Well, Daniel, here is my post from October of 2004:
I wrote: Quote: | Dear fellow members of the Great Tree:
I have news. In my opinion, good news. And I need your help.
I met with Daedalus and Ashtar in the Cavern last night (It was great to see you guys!). I discussed this with them last night and now I'm sharing it with you. There is a lot of ground to cover...and I will be purposefully leaving a lot out so feel free to ask questions here.
As you know, I met Umbra of the WE some time ago. Due to an accident in the tunnels involving the DRS digging machines, this young girl, Umbra, was separated from her mother. Over the course of the last month, other members of the WE have shown up in the Cavern...either looking for Umbra...or wishing to speak with those Explorers who have stumbled upon her and, in my case, gained her confidence. Albion and Penumbra were probably the most visible.
I had the good fortune of meeting with Albion. We had an interesting discussion. The WE are a very interesting and mysterious people. Talking with Albion was a joy and really got my brain humming.
Eventually my meeting with Albion led me to an encounter with Tyrehl, seemingly the leader of the group, or at least an elder statesman. He asked me many questions.....about how I see things.....how I see the world.....in an effort to understand the WE. He gave me much to think about before we parted.
I was away for awhile.......and during that time, members of the WE distributed via the KI coded messages to various Explorers.....probably Explorers who were interested in the WE.....or had met them.....or had expressed an interest in learning more. People at the Tapestry Forum began to work on these coded transmissions.....and perhaps at UO, too, I can't remember. The problem was that there are four messages, only three of which were released. They could only go so far.
Upon my return to the Cavern, I was surprised to learn from various Explorers that the WE were looking for me. Tyrehl wanted another meeting. Apparently they were going away for awhile but they wanted to speak to me before they left. Hmm. Curious. Via KI, I made arrangements to meet with Albion once again for last Friday night.
We met...and discussed....he shared his Relto book with me but didn't follow......I found his Kadish book open to me....I linked.....there I met Penumbra for the first time......We spoke......She led me to Relto.....There I linked to Eder Gira.......and I met Ssaahn. for the first time.....We talked some more and it was back to Relto......To Eder Kemo and Tyrehl. That's Tyrehl. with a period at the end......not to be confused with Tyrehl, their leader and Tyrehl.'s brother. All that travelling only deepened the mystery and my head was spinning.
Finally, as I sat with Tyrehl in Eder Kemo, we came to the nitty gritty. Tyrehl wanted to speak with me before they left on their short Journey. No, I didn't ask where they were going. It didn't seem to matter to me. I was too excited about this meeting anyway. He asked me if I remembered our previous conversation.....asked if I had thought about it. I said yes, I had. He asked if I was aware of the messages that had been distributed by the WE. I said yes, I was. He asked if I had them all in my possession. Explorers were very kind in making sure I had them. For that, I thank them. He then bestowed upon me exclusively the fourth and final piece of the puzzle. He had passed to me a great responsibility. I told him that I could not solve the riddle on my own. He said no one person could. That many people could solve it together, though, and the solution would open another riddle whose solution would lead to a new path............
A new path...........A new Journey? A new Exploration? Isn't that why I came to D'ni? Isn't that why I was called? To explore? To learn? Suddenly I missed my friends from the Great Tree more than ever. I felt very alone. Tyrehl mentioned that the solution could be abused. I don't want to see that happen.
I would like to call a meeting of the Great Tree.....the first since the Cavern was re-opened. I would love it if all the current residents of the Tapestry Great Tree could be there to discuss this situation. Perhaps this Saturday around 4:00 (1600) KI time. Let me know what you think. Let me hear from you. Let me know if you think I should post all four clues on this forum. The WE will be returning in about eight days, I think. Talk to me..... |
The rest of the thread can be found here: http://www.thegreattree.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=608&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
I was very excited by all of this at the time. It was very mysterious and the WE carried themselves very well. I was impressed by them and their level of communication. I look foward to meeting with them again. But, it's not so easy.
If anyone runs into them you should engage them in conversation. You won't be disappoined. And grab their KI numbers for me and PM them to me.
If, after reading all this, you have any questions, post them here and I will do my best to answer them. _________________ Professor Daniel Askew - Securing our reality from the machinations of the Station Masters. |

Hey, Professor...
ha ha whoops, I just had visions of another conversation that starts with that line...
I got this off my list a week or so ago, and keep forgetting to post it. Hope it's a start.

Hey Professor, if the moon were made of ribs, wouldja eat it? It's a simple question, really. If the moon were made of spare ribs, wouldja eat it?! I would... _________________
