3. Due to the potential commercial-use implications, the DRC probably cannot use TeamSpeak during these sessions. (Furthermore, I believe we are never intended to hear their voices anyway, because different people may operate the characters, OOC.) The players, however, are not limited in this way. If the liasons have someone attending who is a fast touch typist (such as myself, ~ 80wpm) then perhaps people could ask their questions over teamspeak and a representative typist could type the questions in quickly.

Overall, the inital round of meetings seems to have gone swimmingly well, and I want to applaud the liasons and the DRC for their hard work!

A good idea but not one thats really functionable. I for on do not have sounds turned on when I am logged on as an effort to reduce the terrible lag I suffer from the game.

Tweak,

Teamspeak is a separately running program, so it doesn't have anything to do with the sound from Uru, which is a known cause of lag. Teamspeak does take up some additional bandwidth on the side, but people used it during the St. Patricks Day event and it worked great and doesn't seem to cause any measurable lag.

Aside from that, it is good to hear that you are all looking into improving the next round of meetings, and good job on the first ones!

I don't know why the DRC are doing this, I can't imagine they get anything out of it. They say they've taken Yeesha's Journey. They say they want to open up more of the Cavern...for us. If they really want to get the Explorers behind them they'll revamp that restoration timeline on their web site and include Explorers on the intel behind it. Yes, the restoration is dependent upon funding which may or may not come, but so what? That's life in the Cavern right now anyway. We're used to it. If the DRC want to open up new parts of Ae'gura, why can't we know? If I knew today that some of the closed doors in the Hood would be opened in August of this year, you can bet I'll be there in August. Does this hinge on whether the DRC is funded or not? Of course, and I'm aware of that. We all are. But, enthusiasm is infectious. If the DRC gave us something to be enthusiastic about, something to plan for, it might really help the cause.

The obvious answer is they themselves don't know. If they said "We'll have X done by August", yeah, we'd all be sure to be there in August, but what if X wasn't done by then? It's all very shakey at the moment. Things could change at any time. If they do, where does that leave us? Waiting around for August when X won't be ready until December wondering why the DRC lied to us?

Yeah, waaay obvious answer. My whole point is....what difference does it make? The restoration of D'ni is hanging by a thread, relatively speaking. The DRC really has nothing to lose by sharing more of their plans with us. If they don't meet their initial goals, again, so what? My whole thought is the more interested the Explorers are, the more likely they'll want to spread the word to other potential explorers, the easier the decision-making process for the potential funders.

And with that........my 1000th poast! Yay!

erm, carry on. Rolling Eyes

I'd agree with that, but the impression I get is that they don't have any particular plans to share with us! Everything is "being worked on". It's still in process. I feel like if they had the ability to say "we're going to be ready to open Kahlo in a month" then they would say that. But Engberg admitted he was having trouble stabilizing the structures there. Victor said he was stuck in regards to the Lake-Light problem. Kodama seems to have done his part on some new Ages (phases 1 and 2) but until the rest of the team gets their act together, they are still inaccessible to us. And etc etc etc.

The funding issue, though a terribly "convenient" excuse, is unfortunately a practical one. Until someone steps up to pay the bills, the DRC are in a similar position to ours - just a bunch of folks hanging around a cave trying to fix stuff up on their own resources. It's unfair to expect too much out of them when they don't have much to give...

Thoughts for you guys to chew on:

Re moderators: One of the DRCL will always be a mod, unless you're told otherwise. There was a bit of a mix up internally as to who was going to which hood, so CA and I both linked into the same hood, and I had to dash over to GT, and then got hung up in link limbo for a bit. It's something we'll have fixed next time around.

Re content: These first ones weren't really meant to be founts of new information. The original goal was to get to know the individual members of the DRC more. My personal feeling was that that was better subject matter for what was, essentially, a trial run of the concept.

It was hard to maintain that topic, but idealy, future town halls with have more specific topics, and be able to get into people's deeper questions.
