Marten,
FANTASTIC. ^_^
I loved it. I am very impressed with how well you were able to get Yeesha synced up with the music.
If you have any interest in tweaking the video further, could I make some suggestions? If you don't want to hear them, no harm done. Otherwise, you could make this thing explode my heart. _________________ ~Moiety Jean

I would be interested, except that I have already deleted the original source recordings (they were eating up gigabytes of disk space). Sorry! However, if your tips are applicable towards future work I'd be willing to listen so that I can refine my skill. _________________ Durin Mephit * Member of Guild of Messengers - Unless otherwise stated, opinions are mine only and not Guild endorsed.

I am offering up a special preview of my next Uru music video. This is a work in progress and I am soliciting feedback and suggestions. Please do not share this URL or file elsewhere.
This preview contains several problems which will be corrected in the final version:- Audio synchronization is off - drops out at points
- My avatar is wearing the wrong hat
- Reltos are not synchronized with the same features
- End titles will be changed to mention www.urulive.com
- Preview is 320x240; final version will be 640x480
I bring to you:
[EDIT] Preview is no longer available!! _________________ Durin Mephit * Member of Guild of Messengers - Unless otherwise stated, opinions are mine only and not Guild endorsed.

Sorry I took so long to reply here!
I loved the video, but I found myself wanting the scenes to vary a bit more. I'm not sure if you could still do this, but what would make me love this video even more is if you filmed some more scenes of camera pans of scenery, or followed Yeesha running, walking, getting to her feet, or doing other things that suggest sweeping action. The longer we get to watch Yeesha standing there moving her arms, the more we hope to see her do something else.
Your synchronization is awesome, really really impressive. I'm sure you worked hard on it, so I'd understand if you didn't want to paste new clips over the top of your work.
The scenes where what's happening follow the lyrics are great, but more non-literal scenes, where the point is just to give a visual compliment to the mood of the music, would really help liven the whole composition. When the music picks up, the action feels like it should pick up too.
I hope my suggestions are received in the spirit in which I give them, which is completely humble and praising. I'm looking forward to watching your newest when I get home from work! _________________ ~Moiety Jean

I appreciate the feedback and I really look forward to comments on the new video's preview. Part of the reason I'm posting it here in advance is so I can take feedback and incorporate it.
I won't be making any more changes to Unwritten, but I can certainly take your comments into consideration with Gorahyanti where applicable. The new video is less focused on avatars and more on scenery... specifically, scenery in motion.
Regarding Unwritten:
I know and agree that the some of the scenes in Unwritten are rather "static." Unfortunately, I couldn't find a good way to liven up those scenes during my filming schedule. My ability to control the camera is quite limited, and so I was forced to restrict myself to the few "takes" that looked OK.
For example, I had to take several shots of the door opening in the Cleft to get one that looked good. (You'll see more of my shakey handiwork in Gorahyanti around 2m 40s.) I find that when I turn left or turn right, I either jitter a lot or I turn too fast. I can't capture a steady, slow movement like I would prefer. And if I try to gently sidestep, the movement starts, stops, starts, stops, starts, and stops. I'm just not very skilled at moving my feet and holding a camera simultaneously, I guess! Maybe if I purchased a camera stabilizer...
Another thing I tried was to place the camera in front of Yeesha and back myself up while she walked forward, but to prevent myself from tripping over my clumsy feet, I had to move very slowly and Yeesha kept overrunning me. So I gave up on that, too.
In the end, I settled on having a lot of scene transitions. I found that I can hold the camera fairly steady for short periods of time, so I did a lot of short captures and mixed them up.
On Gorahyanti:
You'll find that scenes in Gorahyanti are much shorter on average; many are 7 1/4 seconds in length (which is related to the title track, which you'll have guessed already if you saw RAWA's reply to a post that I made over at the DRC forums. And now the D'ni linguists are scrambling to add a new word to their dictionaries... muahahaha!).
Almost every scene focuses on some object or thing I've found in Uru that moves - flowing water, the sun and stars, gears, even massive buildings. Occasionally motion is added to an otherwise static scene by moving the camera forward.
There are some scenes I'm not totally settled with. In particular, the end scenes starting with the Nexus, I'll probably re-order or change. I'd like to add a shot of the windmill turning at the Cleft (it fits with the lyrics). Suggestions are welcome.
One more thing: My inclination is to release this video as soon as I'm done with it, and not to run a puzzle in front of it this time. However, if people want, I'm sure I can come up with a devious waste of time to occupy everyones' minds for a week or so. _________________ Durin Mephit * Member of Guild of Messengers - Unless otherwise stated, opinions are mine only and not Guild endorsed.

I understand what you mean about trying to maintain a steady camera. I've experimented a bit on my own (not recording anything, I haven't learned how or with what to do that yet) on trying to get attractive movement shots. My best results come from manipulating just the camera with the mouse while walking forward with arrow keys. (ack! unavoidable OOC!) _________________ ~Moiety Jean

I know you can't see me now... but I'm standing on my feet and clapping in appreciation of that superb music video.
