The Cavern Today presents it's 14th Podcast; and it's all about Uru Live! Plus, we have a new Journey of the Called episode, and terrific interview with Mark DeForest, also known as Chogon, and a musical composition by Iain Morland.
You can download here:
http://www.thecaverntoday.com/
If you have problems with the download, right click and use save as and open with the Media Player of your choice.
This is also available through ITunes.
We sincerely hope you enjoy it! _________________ PROUD MEMBER OF SAFETY FIRST 243

Not sure if it's me or not, but the feeling I generally get from these podcasts never seems to reflect the wonder of the cavern... Nothing seems familiar...
Am I the only one that feels this way? |

No, you're not the only one.
The podcast seems to be very oriented toward the newer culture that sprang up in the cavern long after Live closed down, which I don't identify with, so I find I don't tend to enjoy the podcast, personally. The interviews by Mowog with the Cyanists are interesting, however. I wish they would make those available separately from the rest of the podcast. _________________ ~Moiety Jean

I'd be kind of interested to see some video podcasts, myself.
Imagine reporters on the scene in the cavern...
I can forgive that the current podcasts are covering, as MJ puts it, the "culture that sprang up ... after Live closed down." After all, aside from the Town Halls, there isn't much new Uru Live-oriented information available. Instead of discussing Town Hall information until it is stale and unpalatable, I think it is refreshing that the CCN crew is working to exercise their creativity and try to keep things fresh. Even if not all of the content strikes my fancy, is it not better than the alternative?
I agree that I'd prefer if the podcasts were divided up into seperately available chapters, however. I'd like to see CCN keep the "all-in-1" podcast file, plus add the chapter files for their more selective listeners. This would be a win/win situation because it could also reduce the bandwidth that CCN uses. _________________ Durin Mephit * Member of Guild of Messengers - Unless otherwise stated, opinions are mine only and not Guild endorsed.

It's a "wonder" that the Podcasts are put together at all considering that the Podcasts are done by people from all over the world with the varying problems that creates what with idiomatic differences in language etc...and then there's the logistics of trying to record in the Cavern and the problems that causes.
Like anything a group of people create to amuse themselves and others in their circumstances, the results won't always please everyone. However, that being said, there are many who really enjoy all of the Podcasts.
And, it is a very excellent idea to have "chapters" i.e. interviews separate for those who prefer the "meat" of the project. I will mention that to my collegues.
We do, by the way, have Journey of the Called if you are interested in a separate "chapter" to catch you up on what's happened.
We at CCN/TCT do so hope we provide entertainment as well as some news as we all await more areas opened up by the DRC. Who knows what the future will bring. _________________ PROUD MEMBER OF SAFETY FIRST 243

I love the podcasts, personally. Even if they are very UU oriented.
Hopefully Live will bring some more in-cavern topics to discuss, right? _________________ KI: 34353 |

I also have a little more information about CCN that has been kept low key because of all the construction work that isn't finished over there (and I find myself one of the construction workers, lol) The Cavern Today podcasts are great, yet TCT is only one of the CCN teams. (BTW, the TCT team is always open to new material for the podcasts....) There is a lot of development going on behind the scenes at CCN Central, which is actually much larger than the team that produces the podcasts. There are different audio and video projects being developed at this moment which will hopefully come out within the next month or two. Some of them are UU related, some are Uru related, some are IC some are OOC, some are out of game completely. Much of the underlying structure is being built (websites, forums, video/audio players) and since there are only a few of us and we're not so techie as some, it is going a bit slow.
There's lots of room for other explorers to get involved in this construction and for those who put together programs themselves but might need a place to broadcast from. I know most fimmakers have their own sites, so it's not about competing with anyone -- only enhancing what is already there. For example, the Great Tree project that is going to be filmed is the type of project that could be streamed or downloaded from there, and the streaming technology takes a lot less bandwidth. Marten's video's come to mind, too.
For another example, I have started putting a little program in the podcasts (The D'ni History Project -- with it's errors already.. ) and the next segment will be in podcast 15. This IC documentary will also be a separate audio and video program with each 30 minute segment relating to a different subject but all being available on the streaming site (which is where the Lakewater name comes in). I am hoping to include in-cavern conversations with explorers from all "walks of Uru life" who have been through prologue and Live or not, who know some of the history, or not. I film in UU and the standalone right now, and I'll also film from Live when it opens. Anyone who's interested in "talking" about their favorite aspect of D'ni history or culture, please pm me. I plan to keep it casual, and fun.
There's also the shortwave, which is UU. I'm not a reporter, but I do contribute small things to that. If you have something you'd like to announce, or if you have suggestions for things to include, I'd love to hear them! And anyone with stories from Live they'd like to make into an audio story, that's also welcome.
The machinema projects are just getting off the ground, too. Some things, like the Cavern Players productions are there now, and the newest ones are slowly getting finished.
The overall CCN structure is kind of like a wheel (or tree) with many spokes (or branches). Cyan and the games (The Great Tree) occupy the center. If you'd like to know more about the whole of CCN, you can start here: (It's a little messy, but coming along)
