|
|
I've been looking at GameTap's game repertoire and trying to decide whether it's appealing enough to sign up early for a subscription (through the Uru Live offer, thus showing my support well ahead of time), or whether I should wait until Live is ready to go. There are some cool old games on there, but I'm not sure if I'd use the service enough to make it worth my while before Live comes about, when I will DEFINITELY be signing up.
Anyone else thought about it? _________________ ~Moiety Jean

I admit that I'm procrastinating on this just a bit, despite evangelizing on the Uru Live forums. I feel so bad.
There are games on GameTap I'm interested in playing. In particular, I'm pleased to see them carrying Homeworld 2. I'm actually less interested in the older adventure games (Sierra's King's Quest, Space Quest, and Quest for Glory series). I have original copies of all of those anyway!
I will want to explore The Manhole and Cosmic Osmo, as I've never played those. They debut next month.
Sam & Max is rumored to start in October; I definitely want to be there for that. (Side note: I should track down the original Sam & Max game. Never got a copy of that.)
Mostly, the problem is free time, though. With the work for the Prologue Videos, and everything else in my personal life, I'm not sure I have time to enjoy a GameTap subscription.
I've promised myself I'll sign up within another week though. Support to Cyan is key - if it means they get more dollars earlier, that will mean a better Uru Live experience later. To me, that's worth it. _________________ Durin Mephit * Member of Guild of Messengers - Unless otherwise stated, opinions are mine only and not Guild endorsed.

I looked at this way...$9.95 a month. How can you go wrong? I signed in May. Do I get a lot of use out of it? Who cares? I don't. LOLOLOLOL _________________ Professor Daniel Askew - Securing our reality from the machinations of the Station Masters. |

Stil debating this one. I had the same theory as Marten - my free time doesn't allow for much internet game play these days, and I know I wouldn't get any use out a gametap subscription right now, so why shell out the cash? But as Prof pointed out, its not even ten bucks a month, which frankly isn't much, so you might as well.
However, lazy bugger that I am, I will probably wait. I'm a bad, bad community member...

It's better for Cyan to sign up now rather than later, through that linkamajigger that was on urulive.com. _________________ KI: 34353 |

I'm about to get really busy for a few weeks and then school starts so I don't know how much time I'll have to play games.

Unlike the professor, being a college student with not enough hours at work, $10 a month can be a lot of money for me, so I'm waiting. _________________ Jaharen

Actually, I was being sarcastic. I'm pretty poor. LOL. But, I still don't care! LOLOLOLOLOL
I believe the reason they're trying to get as many early sign-ups as they can is that GameTap is preparing Cyan's budget even as we speak. The more sign-ups, the more money. Or something like that. _________________ Professor Daniel Askew - Securing our reality from the machinations of the Station Masters. |

I'm thinking along these lines, too. Especially because it looks like I'm only going to be getting 12 hours per week at work during the next quarter if I'm lucky. Poor, I tells ya. Poor. Gotta stock it up now while I can. (I don't want to depend on Kev financially more than I need to; I don't want to be a burden.) _________________

Ok, I just looked through the game titles on Gametap and IMMEDIATELY subscribed.
They
Have
Everything!
I'm so excited (it's downloading them). I could spend HOURS on Ultima V, the Zork games, Kings Quest, (never played Myst III, might as well), Rastan, Kid Chameleon, the list goes on... _________________ #Brian Fioca

I signed up for 'em. Heroes of Might and Magic IV is one of the ones I've been meaning to play for ages, and Sork is, put simply, the best adventure game I've never seen. Not to mention, of course, Sam and Max. _________________ The laws contrived by the Proud are their security, and their undoing. Such laws make disobedience a virtue and obedience a sin. |

the Zork games were awesome... in my days as a teacher at a boarding school, one parents' night I was giving directions to the parents in my classroom. I directed them to a building that was next to a large white house and added "You are west of a white house..." into it on purpose... nearly every dad knew what I was talking about and laughed. Classic.
Zork ruled. so did a lot of the other text-adventures from Infocom. Brian... does GameTap have "Leather Goddesses of Phobos?"
